Part of the national charity CSV, CSV Media runs free/affordable training in radio and print journalism, graphic design and computers. OCN Radio evening course begins June 13th; Radio Production for 13-19 year olds on Wednesday (just started but places are still available); Diploma in Media Techniques (print and radio journalism) begins July 7th; Introduction to Computers begins June 20th. The Commercial Radio Companies Association (CRCA) is the trade body for commercial Radio companies in the United Kingdom and is the primary source of up-to-date information and advice on all aspects of Commercial Radio. In addition to the provision of extensive member services, CRCA handles enquiries from the media, advertisers and agencies, financial analysts, other researchers and people seeking a career in radio.
Ofcom is the independent regulator for the UK communications industries, with responsibilities across television, radio, telecommunications and wireless communications services.
The Radio Academy is the body for those who have a professional interest in radio; membership is open to all those working in the industry. It is a charity dedicated to the recognition, encouragement and demonstration of excellence within the radio industry of the UK.
The DCMS has a role in a range of broadcasting issues:
* Setting the framework for public service broadcasting.
* Ensuring that the regulatory framework for broadcasting fosters fair and effective competition;promotes high quality broadcasting from a diverse range of sources; provides a high level of consumer protection; and safeguards freedom of expression.
* Setting the BBC licence fee.
* Working with industry and consumer groups to achieve analogue to digital TV switchover.
The department works closely with the broadcasting industry and consumer groups to help ensure these aims are met.
The hospital Broadcasting Association is the national representative association for hospital broadcasting in the UK. It is responsible for providing advice and support to hospital radio stations, and for promoting hospital broadcasting nationwide.
Rajar is a company specifically established to manage the UK's agreed system of radio audience measurement. It is jointly owned by the CRCA (on behalf of Commercial Radio companies) and by the BBC.
The RAB is the marketing department for the Commercial Radio industry. Its mission is to increase the levels of familiarity and favourability towards Commercial Radio as an advertising medium. The RAB works closely with national advertisers and their agencies towards effective advertising on Commercial Radio. In addition the RAB works with all sectors of the national advertising marketplace in furthering the overall understanding of the medium. The RAB's approach is underpinned by the key characteristics of impartiality and confidentiality.
The DRDB's task is to accelerate and co-ordinate the process by which DAB becomes a mass market product. The DRDB works with multiplex operators, manufacturers and retailers ensuring that digital radio's marketing and development is consistent and effective.
Radio Studio Services is a small company which provides consultancy and technical services to the radio industry throughout the UK. Our staff are all long-standing professionals with experience including design and manufacture as well as installation, commissioning, training, troubleshooting and support in radio stations large and small.
